Tumor volumes of 10 mice randomized to receive STAT3-C-transfected or vector control-transfected SCCHN cells. Tumor dimensions were measured 11–31 days after tumor inoculation. A mixed quadratic regression model was fit to the log-transformed tumor volumes. Despite a greater tumor volume in the control-transfected SCCHN xenografts on day 11, the curves eventually cross, and the growth rate was significantly greater in the STAT3-C-transfected tumors (likelihood ratio test, p = 0.0306). Symbols represent the actual tumor volumes by day. Lines are the predicted tumor volumes based on the fitted model.
